Are you going to remodel your kitchen? Are you building a custom home and you need to have a vision for what your new kitchen needs to look like? It can be quite the challenge! You not only have to determine flooring, countertops, and cabinets, you have to determine wall colors and ensure all the elements are unified. If you’ve ever been to a home improvement store to try to find paint colors, you know how overwhelming color picking can be. You’re faced with seemingly endless racks of paint samples, and it doesn’t matter what color you want; there are 20 variations to choose from!

It’s important to resist getting caught up in the weeds when it comes to kitchen color schemes. That is why we’re taking some time to discuss general kitchen color directions that can provide you with some clarity when you’ve got paint chips coming out of your ears. In our last blog, we touched on white, red, and blue color schemes and how you can make them work for you. In today’s blog, we’re going to talk about yellows, warm neutrals, and browns. Read on!

THREE COLOR SCHEMES TO CONSIDER FOR YOUR KITCHEN

At the end of the day, many different color schemes work beautifully in the kitchen. You just need to make sure the combination makes you happy. If reds, whites, or blues don’t make you smile, you have three other color directions available to you!

YELLOWS

This warm, cheery hue is a favorite in the kitchen. Because it reflects the ambient light with an extra bit of warmth, it glows in the summer and lends essential coziness in the winter. It’s friendly, it lifts the spirits, and it has an amazing ability to blend with many different types of wood. If you want brightness without the sterile feel of a hospital, yellow is the way to go rather than white. The deeper the yellow you get, the more traditional and classical it will look. If you don’t care for the weight of very rich hues, you can keep things pale in order to ensure your kitchen feels airy. Just make sure the yellow is toned down somewhat. Bright yellow can go from being comforting to stressful on the eyes. We can work with you to ensure your cabinets turn out just the way you want them to.

WARM NEUTRALS

Do you love a color that just doesn’t work well in a kitchen? Are you worried about making your kitchen uncomfortable? Well, we have good news for you: practically any color can be made into a pleasant neutral. The color simply needs to be shaded enough. Though many people see neutrals as dull, neutrals can add incredible interest to your kitchen without overwhelming the room. Cold colors can be warmed into friendliness with orange, yellow, or red. Intense colors can be cooled down with blue, violet, or green. By using a neutral color, you give your light fixtures, cabinets, and countertops a chance to shine.

RICH BROWNS

The earthiness that brown adds to your kitchen cannot be underestimated. Brown provides enough drama while not being overwhelming. One of the most fun things about brown is that it can be used to play with your cabinets and countertops. You have the freedom to accentuate different aspects of your kitchen while adding richness and warmth to the room.
